After a many months’ closure, the Johnstown Historical Society is reopening their museum building located at 17 N William St, Johnstown, NY. The grand opening celebration is free and open to the public on Friday, June 13th from 6pm to 9pm.

You’ll be able to explore the museum and the all new exhibits while you are greeted by familiar faces of Johnstown’s past. Volunteers dressed as historic characters will be throughout the building to greet you. There will be new artifacts, documents, and artwork on display for the first time ever. The historic Drumm House located across the street will also be open and available for visits.

Visitors can also enjoy refreshments and merriment in the backyard including a free make your own sundae bar provided by Stewart’s Shoppes while local musician Kyle Rix provides live musical entertainment. Come mingle with other history buffs and get to know the Johnstown Historical Society for the first time or maybe all over again!

This grand reopening is an important step for the Johnstown Historical Society as they push toward some of the new goals set by its current board of directors to better serve a global community of history lovers and bring them to Johnstown through historic tourism. The board has also announced that they are investing in and digitizing their entire inventory and archives. The clean out and reorganization of the museum building was the first step in preparing for this new inventory system. They will now be better prepared to undergo the cataloging process and will be able to rotate and update exhibits more regularly in the future.

While they are reopening on June13th they are making huge transitions and changes to bring all three of their properties into the future, so that they can better protect and preserve as well as share and educate on the history of Johnstown. This is an ongoing process so the public can expect more changes and updates in the future not only at the museum building but also at The Drumm House & James Burk’s Inn.
